This paper describes the impact of rice hydraulic loading (percentage area under rice crop) on groundwater levels and salinity in the Murrumbidgee irrigation area (MIA), Australia using a MODFLOW-based modelling approach. The model simulations show that the groundwater levels will be in equilibrium after a fall of approximately 1 m under most of the areas, however, the groundwater salinity levels will rise by more than 1,000 μs/cm in most parts of irrigation area. If the rice growing area is reduced by 50 and 75%, there can be a net decline in groundwater levels during the first 2 years and then a new quasi-equilibrium will be established. To downscale these results at the farm level, SWAGMAN Farm model in conjunction with groundwater outflow rates obtained from a three-dimensional MODFLOW model was applied for determining net recharge rates under rice for different areas within the MIA. The highest net recharge during 2005–2006 season was 0.84 ML/ha (84 mm) in parts of the irrigation system, whereas the average net recharge due to rice hydraulic loading for the whole MIA during 2005–2006 season was estimated as 0.34 ML/ha (34 mm).  相似文献

The movements, behavior, and habitat utilization of yellowfin tuna, Thunnus albacares, following capture and release with archival tags in the Revillagigedo Islands Archipelago Biosphere Reserve (RIABR), Mexico, are described from analyses of 16 578 days of time‐series data, downloaded from 52 archival tags recovered from yellowfin (78–173 cm in length and 1.7–8.0 yr of age) at liberty from 93 to 1773 days ( = 411 days), collected during 2006–2012. An unscented Kalman filter model with sea‐surface temperature measurements integrated (UKFsst) was used to process the archival tag data sets to obtain improved estimates of geographic positions, most probable tracks (MPTs), and movement parameters. The MPTs indicate restricted movements, low levels of dispersion, and fidelity of yellowfin tuna to the RIABR. The median parameter estimates from the UKFsst model for errors in longitude (σx) and latitude (σy) were 0.46° and 1.84°, respectively, for directed movements (u and v) –0.05 NM day?1 and –0.05 NM day?1, respectively, and for dispersive movement (D) 117.99 NM2 day?1. Analyses of daily timed depth and temperature records resulted in the classification of the data into four distinct behaviors. There are significant differences among ages in the durations of Type I and Type II diving behaviors and in the daytime and nighttime vertical habitat utilization distributions. The oceanography surrounding the RIABR appears to have a profound influence on the movements, behavior, and habitat utilization of yellowfin in this area.  相似文献

Yellow pigment concentration (YPC) in durum wheat is an important criterion in the assessment of semolina quality, particularly in determining the commercial and nutritional quality of end-products. Genetic variability of YPC and carotenoid components was analysed in 102 wild and cultivated tetraploid wheat accessions in two trials. Overall, modern cultivars showed significantly higher values of YPC compared to old cultivars and wild ssp. dicoccum and ssp. dicoccoides accessions. Total carotenoid concentration varied between 1.178 and 4.416 μg/g with an average of 2.460 μg/g. The portion of carotenoids amounted to 33.2% of the YPC in 80 wheat accessions examined in the 2006 trial. Lutein was the main component of carotenoids, followed by zeaxanthin and β-carotene. α-carotene and β-cryptoxanthin were minor components. Pigment concentration was negatively correlated with kernel weight and grain protein concentration. Significant positive correlations were found between b* index and YPC. Knowledge of the carotenoid composition and concentration is useful for wheat breeders in the development of cultivars with high yellow colour and enhanced phytochemical concentrations, and provides valuable information for evaluating contributions to health benefits from the consumption of durum wheat end-products.  相似文献

A multivariate animal model and multi-generational data from a two-stage selection shrimp breeding program were used to estimate genetic parameters for a genetic nucleus of Penaeus (Litopenaeus) vannamei. A total of 408,648 records from years 2008 to 2010 production cycles provided by a Mexican hatchery were analyzed. The studied traits were survival from 0 to 28 days of age (S1), square root of body weight at 28 days of age (W11/2), survival from 65 to 130 days of age (S2), and body weight at 130 days of age (W2). Mean (standard deviation) for W11/2 and W2 were estimated as 5.4 mg1/2 (1.55) and 13.6 g (3.1), respectively, while mean (standard deviation) for S1 and S2 (as proportions) were estimated as 0.20 (0.41) and 0.71 (0.45), respectively. Heritabilities for S1, W11/2, S2, and W2 were 0.03 ± 0.01, 0.13 ± 0.03, 0.04 ± 0.01, and 0.21 ± 0.04, respectively. Genetic correlations of S1 with W11/2, S2, and W2 were ?0.49 ± 0.21, ?0.29 ± 0. 21, and ?0.40 ± 0.16, respectively. Genetic correlations of W11/2 with S2, and W2 were 0.55 ± 0.17, and 0.71 ± 0.12, respectively, and genetic correlation between S2 and W2 was 0.56 ± 0.10. Results show that selection based on W2 has a positive effect on S2, while selection based on W11/2, as an early selection criterion, would increase the selection responses for W2 and S2.  相似文献

In this study, multiplex PCR panels were developed to amplify 20 microsatellite markers for red sea bream, Pagrus major, with the aim of reducing labor and material costs associated with genetic analysis of this species. The usefulness of these panels was validated in 200 fish collected at five sampling locations. The occurrence of null alleles was suggested at five markers, which were dropped from further analysis. The remaining 15 microsatellite loci showed high levels of heterozygosity (H E range 0.34–0.97, H O range 0.32–1) and a wide range in the number of alleles per locus (A; range 5–46). Increasing the number of microsatellite loci from three to ten and 15 improved the performance of the panels for population differentiation (F ST) and estimation of Nei’s (D S) genetic distance. The results of this study confirm the usefulness of genotyping a large number of microsatellite DNA markers to expand our knowledge of red sea bream population genetics.  相似文献

After the development of the gastric function in juvenile fish, dietary proteins enter a two-phase digestive process comprising an acidic gastric phase followed by an alkaline intestinal phase. However, the main gastric protease, pepsin, is strictly dependent on the existence of a low-enough environmental pH. In 20-g gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata, the mean minimal gastric pH is close to 4.5, while the mean pH in the duodenal portion of the intestine was nearly fixed at 6.5. The mean maximal gastric content of HCl was approximately 20 microEq for a low-buffering diet. Gastric proteases were more severely affected than intestinal proteases when assayed at actual sub-optimal pH values, 4.5 and 6.5, respectively. When the gastric proteases of juvenile fish were pre-incubated with a citric acid buffer at pH 6.0, the activity at pH 4.5 was very low, whereas when they were pre-incubated with the same buffer at pH 3.0, the activity at pH 4.5 was significantly increased; this fact suggests a deficient activation of zymogens during the gastric digestion and points to a potential approach to improve protein digestion in juvenile gilthead sea bream.  相似文献

Cover crops in dry regions have been often limited by low nutrient and water-use efficiency. This study was conducted during 3.5 years to determine the effect of replacing bare fallow by a cover crop on yield, N uptake, and fate of labeled fertiliser in an intensive maize production system. Three treatments were studied: barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), vetch (Vicia villosa L.) and bare fallow during the intercropping period of maize (Zea mays L.). All treatments were irrigated and fertilised following the same procedure, and a microplot in each plot was established with 210 kg N ha?1 of double labeled ammonium nitrate. Crop yield and N uptake, soil mineral N (Nmin), and recovery of 15N in plant and soil were determined after maize harvest and killing the cover crop. Replacing bare fallow with cover crops did not affect subsequent maize yield but affected N uptake. Vetch increased N supply by legume residues after the second year, and the N content in grain by the third. Nitrogen recover from fertiliser was not affected by treatment and averaged 46%. Barley recovered more 15N during the autumn–winter period than vetch or fallow. Under representative conditions, average barley N content was 47, vetch 51, and spontaneous vegetation content 0.8 kg N ha?1. Recovery of 15N in barley comprised 19% of total N content in aerial biomass, while only 4% in vetch. Vetch enhaced soil 15N recovery more than other treatments, suggesting its presence in a fairly stable organic fraction unavailable for maize uptake or lost. Replacing bare fallow by a cover crop only reduced fertiliser losses in a year with abundant precipitation. Nevertheless, reduction in soil Nmin in vetch and bare fallow treatments was similar, showing that N losses can be reduced in this cropping system, either by replace bare fallow with barley or smaller N fertiliser applicationto maize.  相似文献

Sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) is a fruit of increasing economic importance though it is less significant than other stone fruit species such as peach. Cherry has received little attention concerning nitrogen (N) uptake and dynamics in mature trees. The aim of this work was to determine N uptake and partitioning as influenced by the timing of fertilizer application in 7-year-old sweet cherry trees cultivated in a cold region (Los Antiguos, Santa Cruz, Argentina; 71°38′ W, 46°32′ S). Nitrogen (95 kg ha−1) was applied as ammonium nitrate to a soil with ‘Bing’ sweet cherry trees grafted onto Prunusmahaleb rootstocks. Fertilization was split into two equal applications per treatment, involving either the commercial fertilizer ammonium nitrate or the same fertilizer labelled with 15N isotope (10% atom.). Treatments consisted of one early spring (full bloom, October 2005) or one summer (late January 2006, 15 days after harvest) application of 15N ammonium nitrate to three replicate trees. Fruit were harvested in early January and leaves were collected at both full canopy and leaf fall. All trees were excavated in winter (August, 2006). Trees were partitioned into their components: trunk, branches (current-season shoots, 1-year-old and over-1-year-old branches), buds of the same age, small roots (less than 1 mm thick), large roots, leaves (sampled in February and April), and fruit (collected at harvest). Those components were dried and analysed for total N and 15N content. Total N per tree and N content derived from the fertilizer did not differ between treatments. Summer postharvest 15N application partitioned not only to structural components (trunk and roots) but also to buds and leaves. Uptake efficiency was significantly (p = 0.0113) higher in the spring than in the summer application (65.7% vs. 37.44%). Nevertheless, 52.5% of N applied in spring was lost due to harvest and summer pruning. This emphasizes the importance of the postharvest N fertilization which increases N accumulation in both reserve organs and buds though, according to our data, it is less efficiently used. The extent of nitrogen uptake, efficiency of use and partitioning in the following growing seasons are still open questions that deserve further research.  相似文献

There are different protocols of molecular diagnosis methods available including DNA extraction methods to diagnose of Toxoplasma gondii, being necessary to perform comparative studies in biological samples. The aim of this study is to compare real-time PCR (rtPCR) and nested PCR (nPCR) to evaluate the detection of T. gondii in naturally infected cats. Biological samples of Toxoplasma-seropositive cats were assayed for detection of T. gondii DNA - extracted by both the lysis buffer and proteinase K (LB proteinase K) method and the acid guanidinium thiocyanate (GuSCN) method - using rtPCR and nPCR. T. gondii DNA was detected by nPCR in 43.6% and 40.8% of the samples from which it was extracted by the LB proteinase K and the GuSCN method, respectively. With rtPCR these figures fell significantly to 33.8% and 14.1%. Despite of nPCR showed higher sensitivity, the agreement observed between two PCRs was good; this agreement, however, was affected by the DNA extraction method used, LB proteinase K method showed better results.  相似文献
